Marques de Riscal, founded in 1858, is one of Spains most historic wineries. Known for pioneering modern winemaking in Rioja, the estate combines tradition with innovation, including its state-of-the-art City of Wine facility designed by Frank O. Gehry.

Production

The XR Special Release is selected from barrels historically marked with XR by the enologist for exceptional qualities. The grapes are carefully harvested, fermented, and aged extensively in oak, allowing the wine to develop polished tannins, depth, and complexity while remaining expressive of its terroir.

Tasting notes

Intense black-cherry colour with depth. Aromas of liquorice, cinnamon, and black pepper are layered with subtle oak notes, concentrated blueberries, blackcurrants, and balsamic hints. The palate is structured yet elegant, with a firm backbone and polished tannins, culminating in a long, persistent finish.
