About the product: A Legacy of Ohio Craftmanship Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the 1880s, Lewis 66 Rye Whiskey was crafted by Strauss, Pritz & Co., a leading Midwest distiller known for producing some of the finest whiskeys of its era. The brand traces its roots to Alpheus Lewis, a respected Kentucky distiller whose whiskey gained recognition in the mid-19th century. By the late 1800s, Lewis 66 was a staple in saloons and homes across America. As Cincinnati grew into a major whiskey hub, Lewis 66 became one of its most sought-after ryes, distinguished by its bold spice, smooth finish, and superior aging process. The brands national recognition peaked in the early 1900s, featuring legendary baseball player Ty Cobb in a 1912 ad campaign. However, like many great American whiskeys, Lewis 66 disappeared with Prohibition in 1920. Though briefly revived in the 1950s, it faded into historyuntil now. Today, we proudly bring Lewis 66 Rye Whiskey back to life, honoring its Ohio legacy while crafting a whiskey that meets todays highest standards.
