Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the most prominent producers in the Chambolle-Musigny appellation of Burgundy, known for its intense, ageworthy wines from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The estate was initially founded by Marcel Nollat in the early 20th Century. Marcel’s daughter married Gaston Barthod, an officer in the French army, then stationed in Dijon. The pair continued to work on and develop the domaine over the decades. Barthod’s daughter Ghislaine took over after Gaston’s death in 1999, having effectively run the estate for the previous decade or so. She and partner Louis Boillot combine vineyard work across both their respective domaines, although the two estates are run as separate entities and the wines made in their respective wineries. The Barthod estate is made up of around six hectares (15 acres) of vineyard. Over half of this is split between eight well-sited plots in Chambolle-Musigny’s premier cru vineyards, with the remaining land in Villages-level and AOC Bourgogne parcels.
