Around 9000 bottles of this unusual , full term rum matured Springbank were released. As always, European markets quickly sold out. Deep gold. Sweetish on the nose but with the coastal sprightliness retained. Subtle hints of banana cake and unripe pineapple could be auto-suggestion, but the peppery / wood smoke lift is undeniable. A little menthol rub and brine add freshness. Intense and vivacious with early rum sugars followed by a grassy / peppery attack, laced with sooty peat, sweetening at the finish with a flash of fruitiness. The final stages turn peppery, lightly grassy, drying with a touch of cool mint and late peat. Complexity is a strong point.
