A rich and caramely single grain Scotch found sitting in barrels, untouched for twenty-four years and now we can finally have a dram.

An “orphan barrel” is a common term in the Spirits industry for a barrel that has missed out on a release of a blend for one reason or another. Sometimes its because it was simply misplaced in the rickhouse if youve ever seen the inside of one of these massive storage facilities youd understand how easy that can happen. Very often these casks are sold off to independent bottlers. Diageo launched their own brand called “Orphan Barrel” to do that exact same thing when a handful of barrels are found in their amazingly huge inventory. Originally they intended to use this outlet for just the Whiskies in their American portfolio, but theyve recently opened it up to their other properties in the UK.

Muckety-Muck from Orphan Barrel is EXACTLY the kind of special release bottling they intended. Someone found a handful of casks distilled at the Port Dundas Distillery near Glasgow. The facility was closed more than a decade ago. But here we have a bunch of casks of twenty-four year-old single grain Scotch just sitting there with nowhere to go. So they bottled it up at 45% ABV and brought this golden, obviously limited edition opportunity to us. And in keeping with the limited edition nature of this offering, there are six color variations in the label, no doubt spurring collector demand.
