This limited-edition Vol. 2 release in the Sherry Garcia series is a 7.5-year-old high-rye Indiana bourbon (60% corn / 36% rye / 4% malted barley) finished in oloroso sherry casks, delivering bold fruit, nutty sherry depth and dusty barrel funk.
Nose: Cherry and raspberry, layered over seasoned oak and a soft bloom of baking spice.
Palate: Thick and mouth-coating; oxidised sherry richness leads into dried fruit, roasted nuts, caramel and toast.
Finish: A rush of pitted cherry and baking spice lands with power, then fades into seasoned oak and dusty barrel funk.
Dark Arts Whiskey House, based in Lexington, Kentucky, is the brain-child of blender Macaulay Minton. The company focuses on creative finishes and small-batch expressions of whiskey distilled elsewhere and then finished, blended and bottled under the Dark Arts label. Their Sherry Garcia series is highlighted by finishing bourbon in Oloroso sherry casks to impart rich dried-fruit and nutty profiles uncommon in standard bourbons. The Vol. 2 release continues their experimental ethos, aiming for deeper flavour and higher proof, and has become sought after among collectors for its distinct sherry-influenced character.
