*Very High Shoulder, Slight Label Damage, Slight Label Stain/s
The 1971 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz is a remarkable piece of Australian wine history, now over half a century old. Crafted in the classic St Henri stylematured in large, seasoned oak vatsthis vintage focuses on varietal purity and long-term cellaring potential rather than new oak influence.
The nose displays evolved and tertiary characters of dried fruits, leather, cedar, cigar box, and earthy spice, with subtle traces of dark cherry and plum still lingering. On the palate, it is elegant and savoury, with softened tannins and a refined balance between fading fruit, savoury depth, and gentle acidity. A wine of grace, complexity, and rare provenance, offering collectors a unique opportunity to experience Penfolds heritage.
Producer tasting notes: (1971 vintage) “Medium-deep brick crimson. Intense orange peel, camomile, rose garden and cassis aromas with beautiful roasted coffee notes. A superbly concentrated wine with orange peel, rose garden, dried herb and chinotto flavours. Superb fine silky textures, long fresh acidity and smoked meat notes at the finish. A beautiful wine and one of the great St Henri vintages of all time.” –Penfolds
